Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton appear to have a good relationship now that the Duchess of Cambridge has been a part of the royal family for nearly a decade. But, a new report claims that the Queen refused to meet Middleton for years when she was dating Prince William because she wanted to make sure the relationship was serious.
According to The Express, Queen Elizabeth “steered clear” of Middleton for five years because she wasn’t sure the relationship would last. It isn’t clear exactly when William and Kate started dating because they were friends first before things turned romantic. But we do know that it was sometime after she walked the runway in a charity fashion show back in 2002.

However, Middleton admitted during her engagement interview that she didn’t meet the Queen until Peter and Autumn Phillips wedding in May 2008, a full year after William and Kate had broken up and then reconciled for a second time.
Apparently, William told his grandmother that he wasn’t sure about his relationship with Middleton, but when they got back together after their second break up, he knew that she would one day be his wife.
Over the past few years, Middleton’s relationship with the Queen has gotten stronger, and in the documentary Our Queen at Ninety, Middleton said that one of her most memorable experiences with Queen Elizabeth was on “an away-day to Leicester.”
“I went without William, so I was rather apprehensive about that… She was very supportive,” said Kate. “The fact she took the time to make sure that I was happy and looked after for that particular occasion, which probably in everything that she’s doing is a very small element, it shows just how caring she is really.”

Royal expert Ingrid Seward says that the Queen admires Kate, but the two women aren’t incredibly close because they don’t have much in common. Instead, their relationship has a more serious nature because Kate will one day be Queen.

Queen Elizabeth was noticeably absent from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie Harrison’s recent christening because of the monarch’s busy schedule. Prince Philip did not attend either because the 98-year-old has retired from public duty.
